On Thursday, August 10th, 2017, Professor Maher Natsheh, Acting President of An-Najah received at his office a delegation from Northwestern University.


The meeting aimed at discussing further means of mutual cooperation and studying the progress made on the University-Industry Curriculum Development for the Information Technology Programme, a joint student project between An-Najah and Northwestern University.

Prof. Natsheh welcomed the delegation and thanked them for their efforts in supporting the training programme. He stressed the importance of the programme as it links the university with the private sector and talked about the political and financial obstacles that encounter higher education in Palestine.

The delegation in turn stressed the importance of the cooperation between the universities and commended the faculty staff commitment and dedication. They also talked about the advantages of the programme as it engages students in real life training.

Dr. Abdel-Razzak Natsheh, Project Manager and Assistant Professor at the Department of Computer Information Systems talked about the progress made on the programme and confirmed the continuity of the cooperation.

At the end of the meeting, the delegation watched a short documentary on An-Najah’s students, campuses, scientific centres and academic and research achievements.

The delegation included Dr. Bennett Goldberg, Director of Searle Centre for Advancing Learning and Teaching; Dr. Denise Drane, Director for Research and Evaluation, Searle Center for Advancing Learning and Teaching; Dr.  Susanna Calkins, Director of Faculty Initiatives at Searle Centre for Advancing Learning and Teaching and Professor Bruce Ankenman, Industrial Engineering and Management Sciences Co-Director, Segal Design Institute at the McCormick School of Engineering.

The meeting was also attended by Dr. Hamed Abedelhaq, Technical Committee Member; Drs Raed Al-Koni, Walid Basha, Emad Dawwas and Engineer Tamer Haddad, members of the Center for Excellence in Learning and Teaching (CELT); Mr. Rasem Suwan, CEO of Ibdaa Company; Mr. Khaled Mufleh, Director of the Public Relations Department and Ms Shatha Jararaa from PR at An-Najah.

The programme aims at creating the right match between the degree programme and the needs of businesses. It allows students to build a direct relationship with the company which increases the chances of landing in a job. It also aims at engaging learners in authentic business environments and providing personalized support as the teachers and job mentors will provide due individual support for student practical training in the company.
