An-Najah Receives Dr. Sami Miaari

On Wednesday, April 26th, 2017, The Department of Economics at An-Najah hosted Dr. Sami Miaari, Lecturer at the Department of Labor Studies in Tel-Aviv University to participate in a workshop titled: “Foreign Trade or War: Lessons from the Second Palestinian Intifada” at the Old Campus library.
The workshop, which was part of the Brown Bag Seminar, shed light on transferring knowledge from visiting researchers to teachers and students, encouraging scientific research at the Faculty of Economics and Social Sciences and other important topics.
Dr. Maher Abu Zant, Acting Dean of the Faculty of Economics stressed the importance of scientific research and the cooperation between the staff members and the students.
Dr. Shaker Khalil, Head of the Economics Department talked about encouraging the university students to do research and benefiting from other experts and researchers.
In turn, Dr. Miaari talked about the importance of scientific research through which he obtained an international award. He also talked about his recent research results and discussed other topics with the students.

The workshop was organized by Mr. Wajih Amer, Professor Jihad Yaseen and Ms Rafah Hamad from the Economics Department.
Dr. Miaari is also a Research Fellow at the Israeli Democracy Institute. His research focuses on the labour economics, economic causes and consequences of conflict, including on the economic costs of political instability and the relationship between economic shocks and conflict (focusing on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict), discrimination against ethnic minorities and applied econometrics.
