On Friday, December 2nd, 2016, An-Najah's student branch of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) organized the 1st National Bridge ‎Competition 2016 titled: “The Strongest Bridge” at the Faculty of Engineering and IT building.


The competition was supported by Sanad Construction Industries Company, Abaad Contracting Company, Abdul-Rahman Hijjawi Company, Al-Zahra Factory Company for Food Industries and Juice and the Engineers Associations.

The competition aimed at employing what students learn in theory and applying it practically with wooden bridge models and shaping students’ character and developing their practical skills.

 Participating teams designed 3D bridges matching the competition standards with regard to dimensions and materials. The teams’ works were based on the fundamentals of engineering where the drawings were transformed into wooden models to be evaluated by the competition committee.

The competition targeted engineering students from all Palestinian universities and included 25 teams from Birzeit University, Palestine Technical University - Kadoorie, Palestine Polytechnic University and An-Najah National University.

An-Najah team was ranked first place while Birzeit team was ranked second and Polytechnic’s was ranked third.

The event was attended by Dr. Mohammad El-Amleh, Vice President for Academic Affairs; Dr. Khaled Sahli, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and IT; Mr. Iyad Aqraa, Director of Students’ Affairs; Professor Sameer Abu Aisha, ASCE Supervisor at An-Najah and Dr. Sami Hijjawi, Head of the Engineers Association in Nablus.
