An-Najah Holds a Workshop on Mental Health in Palestine

On Wednesday, February 17th, 2016 the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, Department of Public Health at An-Najah organized a workshop titled: “Mental Health in Palestine: Present and Future Challenges” in cooperation with the Palestinian Ministry of Health and the Italian Development Cooperation Agency.

The workshop consisted of three sessions that shed light on mental health issues in Palestine such as partnerships among institutions in the health sector and promoting mental health through bringing together specialists in the field. The workshop also discussed mental health services and ways to blend them with other health services offered by the Palestinian Ministry of Health.

Dr. Mohammad El-Amleh, Vice President for Academic Affairs talked about the significance of proper mental health services in Palestine and stated that An-Najah offers support to researchers in this particular field.

Professor Saleem Haj Yahya, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Health Science and CEO of An-Najah National Hospital discussed some cases of mental health which An-Najah Hospital had received and stressed the importance of the humanitarian aspect of medicine.

In turn, Dr. Asad Ramlawi, Vice Minister of Health conveyed the Minister’s greetings and stated that the ministry will support all academic programmes related to health sciences in Palestine. He further talked about health from a social point of view according to the World Health Organization.
