I, Khairiya Ali Assaf, a sixth-year student at the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, An-Najah National University, share my enriching journey that commenced in 2019. It was the Palestinian Medical Students Association – Nablus that kindled the spark of opportunity through the Professional Exchange Program, empowering medical students to seek internships globally.

During my four-year cooperation with the Palestinian Medical Students Association, evolving from a training and capacity-building role and progressing to my current position as a member of the Association, I have deeply participated in this program. I opted for Slovenia as the host country for two main motives: foremost, to gain insight into the European hospital system, and secondly, owing to its strategic location and proximity to numerous European nations. Slovenia's student exchange program stands out as one of the most robust and enriching programs in the field of human medicine.

I delved into a comprehensive month-long training stint at the Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery, Ljubljana University Hospital. This invaluable experience unveiled the European hospital ecosystem, fostering interactions with medical professionals and students from multifarious backgrounds. Engaging in diverse surgical procedures, medical workshops, and cultural exploration enriched my understanding and global perspective.

Beyond the medical realm, I savored Slovenia's rich culture, explored its iconic landmarks, and forged lasting friendships, amplifying the social aspect of my journey.

I extend profound gratitude to my family for their unwavering support, both financially and morally, facilitating this remarkable journey. Heartfelt appreciation is also owed to my university and the Medical Students Association for their unwavering support, alongside our practical training center, whose invaluable assistance eased certain expenses.

Reflecting on my journey, I urge fellow students to seize such opportunities. Having participated in student exchange programs in the United States, Turkey, and now Slovenia, each experience has been uniquely enriching, offering profound insights into global healthcare systems and nurturing personal growth.
