In a remarkable achievement, a group of dedicated students from the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences at An-Najah National University, including Kamal Issa, Amjad Bakhatan, Majde Abu Khaled under the supervision of Prof. Nidal Jaradat, Dr. Mohammed Hawash, Mr. Nawaf Al-Maharik, Dr. Mustafa Ghanim, and Dr. Mohammad Qadi, has made a significant breakthrough by uncovering the health benefits of a traditional plant found in Palestine. Their groundbreaking research, featured in the esteemed BMC Complementary Medicine and Therapies journal, marks the first exploration of the medicinal properties of Origanum punonense Danin.


These students exhibited exceptional dedication and skills in their research study. Their findings revealed a variety of useful compounds in the essential oil (EO) extracts of O. punonense. Notably, the plant's EO demonstrated impressive abilities to inhibit the growth of LX-2 and Caco-2 cancer cells, showcasing the potential for natural remedies against infections.

The impressive aspect of this research lies not only in its significant findings but also in the fact that it was conducted by students who are still in the process of studying.
