On Thursday and Friday 15-16 January, 2015, Dr. Imad Ibrik, Tempus Project Coordinator at An-Najah National University (ANU), organised a training workshop entitled "Intellectual Property (IP) Master Courses Training Workshop". The workshop focused on supervisory development of syllabi and practical issues, including examination and teaching methods, alumni employability, and competency matching for three core courses in the Master programme in "Intellectual Property and Innovation Management." The courses discussed were entitled Introduction to International Intellectual Property Law, Patents, and Industrial Designs.

Dr. Ibrik opened the workshop by welcoming the attendees and thanking them for their participation. He then went on to discuss the achievements and outcomes of the IP Master courses and the next steps in Promoting Intellectual Property Law Studies in the Mediterranean Region “IP-MED”.

The first day session covered discussions on Patent Law, in which Dr. Mulder from the Maastricht University, Netherlands, talked about the IP Curriculum and necessary requirements to ensure quality implementation of the course. He further explained the content and structure of useful teaching tools in his “Patent Teaching Kit”.Dr. Ibrik also   discussed the necessary requirements to teach a course on patent law, explaining the contents and structure of the Patent course.

In addition, Dr Aurelio Lopez-Tarruella of the University of Alicante gave a presentation on the “International Protection of Intellectual Property Law” Course. His presentation discussed the course structure, international protection requirements, content and objectives and main international treaties in the field of IP.

The second day sessions tackled the following agenda. Dr. Pawan Kumar Dutt and Dr. Archil Chochia from Tallinn University of Technology, Estonia, gave a presentation on industrial design. Dr. Dutt discussed in depth industrial design and its bases, the need for design protection, competition, and various forms of protection. Then, partner universities contributed by introducing their updates in progress preparing for the Master’s in IP Law, and other representatives submitted their programmes for accreditation.

Afterwards, Dr. Ibrik held a meeting to discuss the next steps of the Project.

Notes:

-       The workshop was held in Amman, Jordan and witnessed a wide participation of several representatives from partner universities.

-       The training is part of the WP2-Implementation of Master Programme in IP Law, which aims at the establishment of the IP Law Master Programme in the 6 ENPI South partner universities and any related e-learning facilities.

-       The intended outcomes of the Project are:
IP-MED partners have a good knowledge base in the examination and teaching methods, graduates employability and competence matching for the three core courses in "Intellectual Property and Innovation Management” master degree programme:

      Introduction to International Intellectual Property Law, 5 ECTS;  

      Patents, 7 ECTS; and

      Industrial Designs, 4 ECTS.
