On Thursday 10 April Professor Maher Natsheh, Acting President of An-Najah, met with Mr. Adrian Greer, Chief Operating Officer of the British Council, Mr. Alan Smart, British Council Country Director, and Mr. Mohammad Kobari, Director of the British Council Nablus Office.

Professor Natsheh welcomed the delegates to An-Najah and applauded the British Council’s role in contributing to the advancement of higher education in Palestine. He went on to brief the guests on the history of An-Najah, its academic programmes, the different campuses in Nablus and Tulkarem, and the University’s status both locally and internationally. He also introduced An-Najah’s training hospital, which is still in its early stages of development but vastly improving the quality of medical services provided to the Palestinian public.

In the meeting they discussed An-Najah’s relations with British universities. For example, SOAS University in London, through which foreign students are taught Arabic at An-Najah National University,  and the partnership with Lancaster University for Postgraduate studies in physics.

In turn, Mr. Greer thanked An-Najah for receiving him, and praised the status it has reached in all aspects. He also expressed his delight at the cooperation between the British Council and An-Najah in many academic fields. Mr. Greer went on to talk about the many training projects the British Council is carrying out and the scholarships offered to Palestinian students for graduate studies.

During the course of his discussion with the staff, Mr. Greer applauded the strong bonds between An-Najah and many British universities and encouraged permanent relations, stressing the importance of having strong relations with the Palestinian universities through the offices of the British Council in the different Palestinian cities.

After the meeting with Prof. Natsheh, Mr. Greer met with a number of faculty members who had been on short visit scholarships to British universities, listened to their experiences and discussed relevant matters with them.
