The idea of establishing the Central Medical Laboratory or CML at An-Najah National University emerged after the opening of the Medical Technology Department 15 years ago. The Laboratory was needed as a complement to the department and to provide medical services to all sectors of Palestinian society. The Israeli occupation and shutting down of the university in the past, were real obstacles to its realization. But in spite of this, a strong desire for the establishment of the laboratory remained with the University administration until CML came into being.

It now provides medical services for An-Najah employees, students, and for the local community. All medical examinations at the lab are supervised by specialized academic staff. Dr. Suleiman Khalil, Director of CML , said that the idea of establishing CML came as a result of the need, in the West Bank, for advanced medical testing for chronic diseases, and in order to alleviate the suffering of patients who experience great discomfort when traveling to areas inside the green line to undergo such examinations.
