University's Council


The University Council maintains responsibility of keeping the academic and administrative process of the university running smoothly and eliminating the obstacles that face this process, especially in times of emergency and exceptional situations.  

The University Council consists of:  

- Head of the Council, University President
- Vice and Assistant Presidents
- Deans
- Department Heads
- Faculty Representatives  

The Head of the Council has the right to invite anyone whose attendance is considered necessary.  

University Council Responsibilities and Authorities:


1.  Suspending lectures whenever it is necessary -- for no more than two days -- and making recommendations to the Board of Trustees to suspend lectures for a longer period of time.

2. Supervising the work of the committees established by the Council.

3. Supervising the work of emergent disciplinary bodies according to the established regulations of the University.

4. Discussing the reports of Student Affairs Deanship in normal situations.

5. Express opinions concerning the actions of the Universitys' bodies that have to do with the incidents that hinder the academic process in the University.

6. Considering the general presumptive cases submitted to the Council of Deans, studying them and making the necessary decisions.

7. Doing whatever the Council considers as a work of an urgent nature that requires on-the-spot decisions.


University Council Meetings


Emergency meetings:  

1. The University President calls for emergency meetings on personal initiative, and determines where and when such meeting shall be held  
2. Emergency meetings may be held at a request of one-fourth of the council members.

Regular Meetings 


The University Council meets regularly on the first Monday of each month.  

The quorum for University Council meetings:  

1. The quota for emergency meetings of the Council shall be one-third of the members or more.
2. The quota for regular meetings of the Council shall be half of the members or more.    

Decisions and recommendations of the Council: 


1. Decisions and recommendations are made by the majority of council members present when half or more of the members are present, and by the majority of two-third when less than half of the members are present.  
2. The decisions of the Council are considered executive.    

Abiding by the Council’s
decisions: 

1. The decisions made by the University Council are considered binding on all members of the council; absent and present alike.
2. The council has the right to hold its members answerable     

University Council committees:  


1. The University Council can establish special committees that perform the task of studying, preparing, and making recommendations to the council to assist it in carrying out its duties.  
2. The duties of each committee are determined at the time of its establishment.
