On Monday, November 30, 2015 the Department of Nursing and Midwifery and the American Corner Nablus at An-Najah celebrated the World Diabetes Day through a series of activities held at the Korean-Palestinian IT Institute of Excellence in the New Campus.

Dr. Ayda Al-Qaisi, Head of the Nursing and Midwifery Department welcomed the attendees and thanked Professor Maher Natsheh, Acting President of An-Najah and Dr. Kherieh Rassas, Vice President for International Development and External Affairs and Dr. Mohammad El-Amleh, Vice President for Academic Affairs for their support of the event.

Dr. Al-Qaisi then listed some precautionary measures that help prevent type 2 diabetes and talked about the effects of weight on diabetes pointing out that being overweight is a primary risk factor for type 2 diabetes.

Dr. Intisar Al-Alem, Director of the Palestine Diabetes Institute presented on the causes, symptoms, prevention and diagnosis methods of diabetes.

In turn, Dr. Eman Al-Shawish, Lecturer at the Nursing and Midwifery Department said that physical exercise is important for preventing type2 diabetes and recommended 150 minutes of weekly training to reduce risk.

Notes:

-         The event was also attended by Ms Alia Gilbrecht, Coordinator of the international Office’s American Corner Nablus.

-         The ceremony included blood sugar tests for the attending students.
