Architectural Conservation Unit

The establishment of the Architectural Preservation Unit stems from a deep commitment to serving and advancing the local community. The unit's primary focus is to protect and preserve the rich cultural heritage of Palestine, with a specific emphasis on architectural and urban preservation. By engaging in these efforts, the unit aims to contribute to the sustainable development and growth of the region.

The Architectural Preservation Unit at An-Najah National University is dedicated to achieving the following objectives:

  1. Documentation of Architectural and Urban Heritage: We aim to contribute to the comprehensive documentation of the architectural and urban heritage in Palestine.

  2. Preservation of Historical Buildings and Heritage Sites: Our unit is committed to the preservation and rehabilitation of historical buildings and heritage sites in Palestine. 

  3. Community Awareness: We seek to raise awareness among the local community about the significance of preserving and protecting the Palestinian cultural heritage. 

  4. Capacity Building: We aim to enhance capacity building in the field of architectural and urban preservation. 

  5. Collaboration and Partnerships: We actively collaborate with Palestinian ministries and institutions that are involved in preserving cultural and civilizational heritage. 

  6. International and Local Relations: We establish a network of international and local relationships with specialized centers and organizations in the field of heritage preservation. 

  7. Support for Students and Researchers: We provide support and assistance to students and researchers in the field of architectural and urban conservation.

The Architectural Preservation Unit at An-Najah is dedicated to providing a wide range of services in the field of preserving cultural heritage. These services include:

  • Conducting in-depth studies and research: We engage in rigorous research activities to enhance our understanding of cultural heritage preservation. 

  • Preservation and rehabilitation of historical buildings and heritage sites: We work towards the restoration and revitalization of significant historical structures and heritage sites in Palestine. 

  • Public awareness campaigns: We actively raise public awareness about the importance of protecting and preserving Palestinian cultural heritage. 

  • Technical assistance and advice: We offer expert technical assistance and advice to individuals, organizations, and communities involved in architectural and urban preservation. 

  • Vocational training: We provide vocational training programs in the field of architectural and urban conservation. 

  • Workshops, seminars, and conferences: We organize specialized events focused on preserving cultural heritage.

The Architectural Preservation Unit at An-Najah National University engages in a wide range of activities aimed at preserving and promoting the cultural heritage of Palestine. Our key activities include:

  • Management and Preservation Plans: We prepare comprehensive management and preservation plans for cultural landscapes, ensuring their sustainable conservation and protection. These plans take into account the unique historical, social, and environmental aspects of each site.

  • Restoration and Rehabilitation Projects: We execute projects that focus on the restoration and rehabilitation of old buildings and entire historic towns. 

  • Studies, Surveys, and Research: We conduct specialized studies, surveys, and research on cultural and natural heritage. These activities help us better understand the significance and value of heritage sites, identify threats and challenges, and propose effective conservation strategies.

  • Development Projects: We collaborate with ministries, local authorities, and other relevant institutions to develop projects that integrate architectural preservation and heritage conservation into urban development plans. 

  • Training Courses: We offer specialized training courses in architectural preservation and management for staff from the public and private sectors.
