Working Plan 2020-2024‎

  • This course aims to raise awareness about human rights, and democracy.
  • The course will host law professors, experts and activists in the field of human rights.
  • The structure of the course will include empirical research and theoretical approaches.
  • In addition, students will be asked to create short films about human rights’ status– a competition will be held at the end of the course to choose the best presentation, poster, or film.

The Chair in collaboration with other Palestinian Universities will expand this idea to apply the course in the rest of the universities.

The suggested title is: “A.B.C – engendering the constitution – The Way Forward”. The aim is to provide basic understanding about women’s rights in Palestine.

​​​​​​The workshops will be directed to students, civil society organizations, academics, and decision makers. Detailed reports will be issued by the UNESCO after the workshops.

  • With students (3 workshops).
  • With civil society organizations and academics (2 workshops).

  • With decision makers (one).

These three workshops will be followed by three separate reports issued from the UNISCO Chair at an-Najah.

This will be a priority for 2020. Erasmus Research and exchange with the University of Palermo. The MOU between the two universities is signed and was ready to take effect in March 2020, but due to Corona Virus, this agreement cannot take place until late 2020. The program will last until 2023. It will involve exchanging of three students and two members of staff each semester. An-Najah Law school under the supervisor of the UNESCO Chair will provide three courses in English for the students coming from Palermo University, and 15 hours training with Palestinian NGOs in Human Rights and Democracy. The Chair will be responsible to make the proper connections with the Human Rights organizations and set the training plan. In return 3 students from an-Najah will visit the Italian University and spent an academic term there. The academics from each side will give seminars and present research papers during their stay. In addition, two administrative staff will visit from each side and try to develop their administrative skills and share their experience at their universities after return from their exchange.

​​​​​​​This project will be launched after the end of state of emergency in Palestine and will last for the next four years.
