Minister of Culture Visits An-Najah National University to Discuss Collaborative Efforts in Preserving Palestinian Heritage
Minister of Culture Imad Hamdan, accompanied by a delegation, visited An-Najah National University to discuss cooperative efforts in cultural preservation and research. He met with University President Prof. Abdel Nasser Zaid, along with vice presidents and deans, to explore the significance of conducting comprehensive research on both oral and written Palestinian narratives, as well as establishing training programs for documenting and digitally archiving this heritage on a global level.
Minister Hamdan praised An-Najah University’s pioneering role in cultural preservation and education, emphasizing the ministry’s commitment to supporting the creativity and awareness of young people. The Ministry of Culture, he noted, is prepared to work with students and faculty on training in documentation, developing plans and strategies, and conducting joint research. He also expressed interest in organizing a conference that would gather researchers focused on Palestinian heritage, giving students and academics a platform to present their findings.
Prof. Abdel Nasser Zaid welcomed the minister and his delegation, expressing the university's readiness to build a sustained partnership with the ministry. He highlighted the university’s dedication to documenting Palestinian history through forums, conferences, and scholarly research, while proposing the formation of a joint committee to strategize collaborative initiatives in heritage preservation.
The visit included a tour of key university facilities, such as the library and the Centennial Exhibition, which showcases the university’s history, documents incidents of occupation-related violence, and displays historical Palestinian artifacts. The delegation also visited the Heritage Museum and the Prince Turki bin Abdul Aziz Theater, where An-Najah hosts various cultural and academic events. Additionally, the minister met with a group of writers, novelists, and specialists in literature and arts from the university.
This visit highlights An-Najah National University's dedication to fostering close ties with local and governmental entities, especially in areas that advance the cultural and educational landscape of Palestinian society.
