An-Najah National University announces a research assistant vacancy to work in a project aiming at improving the primary health care response to violence against women in low and middle income countries. This is an opportunity for a researcher to work with a multi-disciplinary team, from Palestine, UK, Brazil, and the WHO, to conduct formative research to develop and pilot an intervention to improve the response of primary health care and family medicine to violence against women. This is a full time job for 2 years starting from 1 April 2017.  The research assistant will be based at the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences and will be accountable to the Principal Investigator (PI) Dr. Amira Shaheen.  Main duties include;


. Project administration and coordination

A.1 Coordinate and carry out fieldwork under the supervision of the PI;

A.2 Design set up and maintains systems for recording all fieldwork activities under the supervision of the PI;

A.3 Liaise with members of the research team, and research participants as required during the course of the project;

A.4 Assist with the organization of an advisory group and other meetings related to the project as required;

A.5 Help facilitate development of training and referral intervention with stakeholder group

A.6 Provide feedback on progress to the PI, other members of the research team and more widely as required.

B. Research

B.1 Arrange training schedule for pilot clinics

B.2 Visit clinics who have agreed to participate in the research project to recruit health care workers;

B.3 Contribute in collecting qualitative and quantitative data from participants in the research;

B.4 Organize and undertake focus groups and interviews with participants at various locations;  

B.5 Undertake analysis of quantitative and qualitative data, under the supervision of the PI;

B.6 Contribute to drafting reports and papers.

Master degree or equivalent qualification in a Health and Social Science.

 

Experience

Experience in working with a multi-disciplinary team.

Research experience in relevant field of health and/or social care

Experience of interviews and qualitative  analysis

Experience in working with policy makers, care providers, and traumatized persons.

Experience of focus group method

Experience of survey design, conduct and analysis

 

Knowledge

 

Research and policy concerning gender based violence

Complex intervention methods.

Skills

Excellent organizational and administrative skills as required to generate and maintain detailed documentation for a complex multi-national study.

Computing skills in word processing and one or more statistical analysis package.

Excellent communication skills.  The ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a research team.

 

The ability to write clearly and concisely and to contribute to the dissemination of the research findings.

Others

Willingness to travel extensively and flexibly to undertake fieldwork within the West Bank
