Centers Coordinator

A Scientific Centre is the place for research and for the implementation of projects; it bridges the relationship between the University and the Community. The University, represented by its Board of Trustees and its Administration, continues its efforts of establishing Scientific Centres that help with sustainable development and enriching the infrastructure of the Palestinian Community.

In 1994, the Institute for Water and Environmental Studies was founded. More Centres have been established since then, such as the Urban and Regional Centre and the Community Service Centre. There were six Centres by 2002, but more Centres were established on the behest of the Centres Administration: the Continuing Education Centre, Opinion Polls and Survey Studies and the Construction Transportation Research Centre. Now there are fourteen Scientific Centres in total.

In 2006, the Poison Control and Drug Information Centre was established under the patronage of the Palestinian Development and Investment Company (PADICO) - the only Centre operating in this field in the West Bank. The Board of Trustees agreed to start the preparations for the establishment of the Strategic Studies Centre; a Centre deemed vital in national, regional and international spheres.

The Centres Administration presented its three- and five-year plans for achieving the aims set for the Palestinian Community to its counselling boards.

The University Administration, represented by its President and its Board of Trustees, did their utmost to support the Scientific Centres, which enable the University to be what it is. The Scientific Centres carried out many strategic projects, such as planning for Ramallah, Bitonia and Albeireh, in co-operation with many fellow consultants and experts.

I would like to thank the Chairperson of the Board of Trustees and its members as well as the University Administration and its President. I would also like to thank my fellows- the Co-ordinators of the Scientific Centres, its experts and consultants of the University who dedicated their time and efforts to the Centres that will help our Community to achieve their goals in streamlining for sustainable development.
