Definition of terms and Concepts

Competency refers to performance which reflects Knowledge, Talents, and Skills which  enable the person to perform tasks and duties to achieve goals within expected standards.

A Competency Standard determines and evaluates performance levels in categories of knowledge, talents, skills and attitude – characteristics required to operate effectively in the real world.

Standards are made up of units of competency that reflect the skill-level and performance-quality in a given criteria.
Competency Framework links NNU objectives and student's performance.

Competency Project is set to be implemented throughout the entire organization of An-Najah University.

A Competency Development Board was established May 2010 to determine new performance development strategies for the university.

A set of competency list have been determined by the board through consultations and benchmarking.

Competency-Based Eduacation (CBE) : is a non - traditional education philosophy where the student is an active learner and not a passive recipient . CBE is outcome based education where by the intended learning outcomes( ILO's )are implemented by the learner.

Competency Basic Components: English proficiency, IT proficiency, Community Service, Communication Skills, Emotional intelligence, and Social intelligence.

Competency Building Dynamics: Teacher, Student, and Market/Community.

Competence Building Process: Assess student needs, select competencies, Instructions, and Evaluate Competency Attainment.

Student - Centerd Learning (SCL): is focused on the student needs, abilities, and learning style.
