The Chair conducts research on specific human rights issues through literature study and qualitative/quantitative data collection that will result in the publication of reports and papers, which will subsequently be used for conferences and advocacy purposes.
The Chair places high importance on education in human rights. Facilitating training in the field of human rights empowers civil society initiatives that address rights issues. Furthermore, it raises knowledge and awareness of universal human rights issues. The Chair facilitates human rights training to An Najah students and teachers, as well as outside groups such as policy makers, security forces and youth. Examples of such training programmes include workshops on relevant UN Conventions as well as specialized lectures by human rights lawyers on specific legal procedures such as, for example, the military court system which is in place in the West Bank.
Through a combination of internal and external funding the UNESCO Chair works to sponsor conferences and programs at An-Najah National University on contemporary human rights issues. These activities work to promote awareness and participation in political, social, and economic human rights and Palestine’s relations with other institutions and countries.
