On Monday, October 26th, 2015 Professor Jalal Dabeek, Director of the Urban Planning and Disaster Risk Reduction Center’s Seismic Risk Mitigation Center at An-Najah and Vice President of the National Authority for Disaster Risk Reduction participated in the “Reducing Earthquake Losses in the Extended Mediterranean Region” (RELEMR) workshop which took place in Italy. The workshop was over four days from October 26-29, 2015 and was organized by UNESCO.

Professor Dabeek presented a research paper on the H2020 funded project, SASPARM 2 being, which is currently being implemented by An-Najah.

Notes:

-         The workshop was attended by a number of experts from Europe, the Arab World and representatives from the United Nations.

-         SASPARM is carried out by An-Najah in cooperation with the European Earthquake Engineering Center (EUCENTRE) and IUSS University in Pavia, Italy, within the FP7 group of European projects.

-         SASPARM aims at reinforcing international cooperation with neighboring countries to Europe in the fields of research. It also aims at reducing the risk of earthquakes in Palestine through improving the capabilities of Palestinian institutions and engineers in the field of seismic design of buildings and raising awareness on earthquake risk reduction.
