The SWITCH-Med initiative for social and eco innovation in the Mediterranean area has appointed Engineer Mohammad Dwaikat, Lecturer at the Faculty of Engineering and Information Technology at An-Najah as an ambassador and accredited trainer for the green leadership award (2015-2017) in the West Bank.

The objective of the initiative is to facilitate the shift towards Sustainable Consumption and Production - SCP - in the Mediterranean Region. It is concerned with changing the way goods and services are produced and consumed, so that human development and satisfaction of human needs is decoupled from environmental degradation. It will support industry, emerging green entrepreneurs, civil society and policy makers through policy development, demonstration activities and networking.

As for the Green Leadership Award, it offers free training for those interested in establishing or developing environmentally friendly projects.

Mr. Dwaikat said that the training programme which he will be giving in October 2015 will consist of 25 training hours and will be over three months.

He added that Palestine’s participation in the project will be with 160 projects, 16 of which will be selected to compete with other countries in the Arab World.

Notes:

-         SWITCH-Med, funded by the EU, builds on the success of an on-going sister programme called SWITCH-Asia.
