On Friday June 26, 2015 Dr. Alia Assali, Dean of the Faulty of Education and Teacher Training at An-Najah gave a seminar titled "Women in Palestine" at Ochanomizu University, in Tokyo-Japan.

The seminar which was moderated by Professor Royoko Kodama, Lecturer in the gender Studies master program at Ochanomizu University and gender studies center at the university, tackled a number of subjects concerning life in Palestine, especially women’s life, which the attendants found very interesting.

Dr. Assali's presentation touched upon the cultural, social and economic life of the Palestinian woman education and political participation in the community. She also mentioned the challenges and obstacles Palestinian women have faced throughout history.

Dr. Assali stressed the importance of women's participation in the political field and gave statistics about Palestinian women's role in the West Bank and Gaza Strip.

She concluded by commending the Ochanomizu University and the Japanese government’s support of the Palestinian people and hoping for further cooperation.

 

Notes:

-          The three-hour seminar was attended by representatives of different international universities and activists in Islamic and Middle Eastern Studies as well as representatives from Japan intellectual fellowship.
