On Saturday, Feb 21, 2015 Dr. Aida Qaissi, Head of the Nursing Department At-Najah National University participated in the Third “Nurses of the Middle East and Partners United for Human Care" Conference.

In the Conference, which took place in Aqaba-Jordan, Dr. Qaissi presented two research papers. The first paper was entitled "Prevalence and Severity of Depression among Mothers of Disabled Children in Palestine", and suggested that mothers of children with disabilities often experience greater stress and emotional demands than other mothers do. The study also recommended that early recognition of depression symptoms in mothers of disabled children should be of great concern for health care providers. This means shifting the rehabilitation services from child-centered to family-centered services through providing supportive services.

The second research paper was entitled "Nurses’ Attitudes towards Aggressive patients in a Palestinian Psychiatric Hospital" and aimed at exploring nurse's practices and attitudes towards psychiatric aggression. This study found that Palestinian psychiatric nurses negatively view aggression and suggested the need for training programs to reorient their views of how inpatient aggression should be approached in order to enhance the medical services provided.

Notes:
