On Wednesday 20 August 2014 the Faculty of Science at An-Najah hosted Professor Khaled Eid, Graduate Programmes coordinator for the Department of Physics at Miami University.

Professor Eid gave a lecture entitled “Nano-Scale Physics Research: There is Plenty of Room in the Middle”.

His lecture touched upon a number of subjects related to Nanotechnology, its development and technological application. He also talked about his research interest, magnetic features of semiconductors in Micro and Nano structures and the features of liquids in small portions (up to a few micrometers).

On this theme he talked about the nature of the research he supervises for both undergraduate and graduate students and his personal contribution with regards to nano technology through developing and presenting two new experiments:

-          Quantum behaviour in gold wires as a direct result of the wave like nature of electrons (Prof. Eid was awarded a patent on this experiment. In addition to other quantum mechanics topics that are currently being studied).

-          Behaviour of water drops on surfaces with different crudeness and surface tension which can be applied in thermal exchange.

At the end of the lecture, Professor Eid talked about the mechanism of graduate studies in Miami University and said he is always happy to help with finding scholarship for competent students.

He mentioned that one of An-Najah’s students was awarded a Master’s scholarship at Miami University, and finished with a GPA of 4/4 and her name on the honour’s list.

Note:

-          The lecture was also attended by Dr. Sabri Nasser, Dean of Science, a number of faculty members, and a number of students.
