Call for Papers

The Faculty of Arts at An-Najah National University is pleased to invite you to the

Sixth International Conference on:

"The Role of Translation in the Dialogue of Civilizations."

All interested persons are cordially invited to participate in this conference as either participants or attendees.

Conference Themes:

1.      Translation of Travel-Books and their role in the dialogue of civilizations.

2.      Ancient and Modern Translation Centers in the Islamic World.

3.      Orientalists and Translation.

4.      The Exchange of Culture and Science between Arabs and Europeans (through scientific scholarships) in various eras.

5.      The role of Embassies and Commercial Agencies in the dialogue of civilization.

Conference Objectives:

1.      Highlighting the importance and the scientific value of travel literature in cross-cultural relations between nations.

2.      Importance of the role of translation centers in the Islamic World: urban and suburb centers.

3.      Study of Orientlists’ efforts in translation and their purposes across ages.

4.      Tracing scholarly missions since establishment and their role in the dialogue of civilizations.

5.      Examining the work of ambassadorial missions in strengthening or weakening the relations between nations.

6.      Exploring the role of commercial agencies and commercial consulars from the Ottoman Period through Europe’s consular missions in the Arab World during the 18th and 19th centuries.

 Zafer Al-Masri Auditorium/Old Campus 

Date of Conference:

10th of October, 2013

Important Deadlines:

1.      Submission of CVs and Abstracts: 28th March, 2013

2.      Submission of electronic copies of final papers: 1st of August, 2013
